This public hearing was held on 01.12.2009 to consider the major challenges of the future reform of the CFP. Regional Advisory Councils, industry representatives, NGOs and other stakeholders discussed with members of the PECH Committee the major directions of the CFP.

During the meeting of 30.11.2009, the rapporteur, Maria do Céu Neves Patrão (EPP PT), presented her draft report on the Green Paper on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. One of the issues that the rapporteur examines in her report is how to ensure the long-term sustainability and viability of fisheries.

  • 12 and 13/12/2009: Meeting with irish islands fishermen. Arainn Mhor (Co Donegal), Ireland
This meeting was held to discuss about the ban of salmon fishing and its effects on the small islands communitites and their livelihoods. A declaration was signed by the visiting delegates and will be sent as a submission to the Green Paper process.

  • 19 and 20/01/2010: European Commission DG Mare meeting with stakeholders. Brussels, Belgium
This meeting was organised by the Commission on January 19th and 20th, with stakeholders (fishing/processing sector, trade unions, NGOs – including Pew, WWF, Greenpeace, SAR, CFFA). External fisheries policy was debated. All debates were introduced by the DG mare, giving their current views about potential future options.
  • 25/01/2010: European Commission seminar on Right Based Management in the CFP. Brussels, Belgium
The Commission is holding this seminar which aims to: 1) Summarise RBM debate to date with a focus on sensitive issues; 2) Outline Commission approach to RBM in a reformed CFP; 3) Discuss practical design and implementation issues in the EU.

This meeting of organizations of artisanal coastal fishers and NGOs is organised in order to identify further common ground and discuss how to work more closely together to support the achievement of sustainable fisheries and livelihoods through CFP reform.
The meeting will take place on 30th April in La Coruna (Spain) in the Caixa Galicia Foundation, Calle Nueva, 30 from 4.30 to 7.30pm
The results of the meeting will be presented at the official stakeholder Conference on the Reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (La Coruna, 2-3 May 2010) organized by the European Commission with the Spanish EU presidency.

  • 02 and 03/05/2010: Conference on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. La Coruña, Spain.
This conference is co-organized by the European Commission and the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. Three key pillars of the reform will be debated in three simultaneous workshops: governance, access and resource management and the differentiated regime for small-scale and coastal fisheries. The conference is open to European institutions, national administrations, representatives of the fisheries sector, the scientific community in addition to non-governmental organisations.
